Volunteer Photography Policy

1. About Volunteer Photography

Nritya Chitra occasionally provides complimentary (volunteer) photography services for Bharatanatyam concerts, cultural events, and community performances. This policy outlines the terms that apply to all volunteer and complimentary photography engagements.

Volunteer photography is offered entirely at the discretion of Nritya Chitra. The offer of complimentary services on one occasion does not create an obligation or expectation of ongoing complimentary services for future events.

2. What Is Included

Unless otherwise agreed in writing, volunteer photography services include:

  • Attendance at the specified event or concert
  • Photography coverage consistent with Nritya Chitra’s standard approach — candid, documentary-style capture of performances and key moments
  • Basic post-processing and colour correction of a reasonable selection of images at Nritya Chitra’s discretion
  • Delivery of a curated set of final images via a secure cloud link

The number of images delivered will reflect the nature and duration of the event, and is at Nritya Chitra’s sole discretion. There is no minimum image guarantee for volunteer engagements.

3. What Is Not Included

Unless separately agreed in writing, volunteer photography does not include:

  • Unlimited image selection or client-directed culling
  • Individual identification services for group performances (unless costume photos and dancer details are provided in advance as per Section 4)
  • Rush delivery or expedited editing
  • Retouching, compositing, or extensive post-processing beyond standard colour correction
  • Printed products, photo books, or physical deliverables
  • Exclusive rights or commercial licensing
  • A second photographer or assistant

4. Group Performances — Dancer Identification

For volunteer coverage of group Bharatanatyam performances, identification of individual dancers cannot be guaranteed unless the following information is provided at least 48 hours before the event:

  • Dancer’s full name
  • Position in the group formation
  • Performance item number
  • A clear costume photo taken on the day of the concert

Without this information, Nritya Chitra will photograph performances to the best of their ability but cannot be held responsible for missed identification of specific dancers.

5. Copyright & Usage

All images captured during volunteer photography engagements remain the exclusive intellectual property and copyright of Nritya Chitra (Nandagopal Rajagopal) at all times.

Organisation Usage Rights

  • The organising body or event host receives a non-exclusive licence to use delivered images for non-commercial promotional purposes, including social media, event recaps, and website galleries.
  • Commercial use, sale, or licensing of images to third parties is not permitted without a separate written agreement.
  • Images must not be cropped, filtered, or altered in a way that misrepresents the original work.
  • Credit to Nritya Chitra or Nandagopal Rajagopal is appreciated but not mandatory for non-commercial social sharing.

Individual Performer Usage Rights

  • Individual performers and their families may use delivered images for personal, non-commercial purposes including personal social media.
  • Please credit @nandagopalr on Instagram or tag Nandagopal Rajagopal on Facebook where possible.
  • Commercial or promotional use by individual performers requires a separate written agreement.

Portfolio Use

  • Nritya Chitra reserves the right to use images from volunteer engagements for portfolio display, website galleries, and promotional purposes.
  • Where images feature identifiable individuals, portfolio use will be confirmed with the event organiser before publication.

6. Watermarks

  • All delivered images will include a Nritya Chitra watermark.
  • Removal, cropping, or alteration of watermarks is strictly prohibited regardless of the complimentary nature of the engagement.

7. Delivery Timeframes

Volunteer photography is delivered on a best-effort basis alongside Nritya Chitra’s paid client commitments. As such:

  • No guaranteed delivery timeframe applies to volunteer engagements unless specifically agreed in writing.
  • Paid client work takes priority in the editing queue.
  • A reasonable estimate of delivery time will be communicated after the event where possible.

8. Cancellation & No-Show

  • If Nritya Chitra is unable to attend a volunteer engagement due to unforeseen circumstances, reasonable notice will be provided where possible.
  • Volunteer commitments are made in good faith. Repeated last-minute cancellations or no-shows by the organising body may result in withdrawal of future volunteer availability.

9. Liability

Volunteer photography services are provided without fee and therefore without warranty. To the maximum extent permitted by Australian Consumer Law, Nritya Chitra accepts no liability for any loss or disappointment arising from volunteer photography engagements, including missed moments, technical issues, or image quality concerns arising from venue conditions.

10. Requesting Volunteer Coverage

To request volunteer photography coverage for your event, please contact Nritya Chitra as early as possible. Requests are considered based on availability, the nature of the event, and alignment with Nritya Chitra’s portfolio interests.
